 TEAM LAGOS EMERGES TOP AT 23RD NATIONAL SPORTS FESTIVAL SOUTH WEST ELIMINATION Lagos State athletes proved their dominance in the South West by edging out regional competitors and emerging top in the five team events contested at the elimination series qualifier for the 23rd National Sports Festival later this year in Enugu. The elimination series featured team events in volleyball, basketball, football, beach volleyball, and cricket in male and female categories. While the team clinched only the female football ticket by topping their group, they showed dominance in three other sports by winning both the male and female tickets. Team Lagos took first position in the volleyball male and female categories. The male team defeated their counterparts from Ondo in the finals by 25-18, 24-26, 25-20, and 25-20, while the female team defeated Team Oyo by 25-18, 22-25, 28-26, 16-25, and 15-8.  Phone thieves using tricycle for operation in Jos busted


Operatives of Plateau Police Command have busted three members of suspected phone snatching gang operating with tricycles in Jos, the state capital and environs.

The suspects were apprehended while attempting to snatch the mobile phone of an unsuspecting resident around Rantya community of Jos South Local Government Area of the state, the spokesperson for the Plateau Police Command, Alfred Alabo, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday in Jos.

He said they were arrested on August 29, at about 2:00 p.m., three suspects were arrested at Rantya roundabout while attempting to make away with the mobile phone of some innocent victims.

According to the police spokesperson, the suspects, who operate using tricycles, would usually lure their victims to join the tricycles by posing as commercial riders and then rob them of their belongings.

”Upon interrogation the suspects all confessed to being members of a syndicate which specialises in snatching people’s belongings around the Rantya axis.

”They also revealed that they usually hypnotise innocent citizens and rob them of their belongings, especially mobile phones.

”The suspects further revealed that they lure their victims into boarding their tricycle posing as commercial riders and later steal the targeted property without trace,”he said

The Plateau Police Command spokesperson added that exhibits recovered from the suspects included an android phone and a tricycle with registration number PT 17437.
