Residents Displaced As Flood Washes Away Graves, Ravages Homes In Zaria

Residents of Chikaji and neighbouring communities in Sabon Gari Local Government Area of Kaduna State had to relocate temporarily as a flood caused by torrential rainfall washed away houses and destroyed drainages.

The flood also affected a cemetery in the area as some graves were washed away.

Speaker of the Federal House of Representatives, Hon.Tajuddeen Abbas who was from the area, has called for an urgent intervention to provide succour to the victims, urging them to stay calm while the government makes efforts to address their plight.

The village head of the community, Auwal Sani-Danbaba, alleged that despite the severity of the incident, no help has been received so far from the authorities.

He said the flood washed away parts of the LEA Primary School and a substantial part of the Hayin Ojo Cemetery.

“Presently, many graves were left open; while some victims of the flood are sheltered in the neighbourhood. But so far, there was no loss of life during the incident, We are in dire need of support to rebuild our homes and our lives.”

” We are calling on the government and well-meaning Nigerians to come to our aid,” he pleaded.
