 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State. The Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway is a multi-state infrastructure project aimed at improving connectivity and economic activities across northern and southern Nigeria. More...

 Telegram Founder Pavel Durov Arrested in France Over App Moderation Issues



Telegram CEO Pavel Durov was arrested yesterday, August 24, by French authorities at Le Bourget Airport near Paris, following the landing of his private jet. 


French media sources indicate that the 39-year-old billionaire, originally from Russia and now residing in Dubai, was detained under a warrant related to his messaging platform's moderation policies.


The investigation centers on allegations that Telegram has failed to curb criminal activities, including drug trafficking, child exploitation, and fraud. Despite previous claims from Telegram that its moderation efforts are sufficient, the app has faced criticism for not fully cooperating with law enforcement. 


Telegram, which was banned in Russia in 2018 and later reinstated in 2021, is particularly popular in Russia, Ukraine, and former Soviet states. Durov, who also holds citizenship in the UAE and France, left Russia in 2014 after refusing government demands to shut down opposition groups on his previous platform, VKontakte.


The Russian Embassy in France is actively seeking clarification from French authorities regarding Durov's detention and is working to ensure his rights are protected. Russian officials and Elon Musk have voiced concerns about the arrest, with Musk notably tweeting in support of Durov.


Critics argue that Telegram’s relatively lax moderation policies allow for the spread of extremist content, misinformation, and other illegal activities, making it a contentious platform in the eyes of many governments.
