U.S: PRISON GUARDS AND RESPONDING MEDICS ARE BEING TRANSPORTED TO EMERGENCY ROOM DUE TO OVERDOSING ON UNKNOWN SUBSTANCES. (PHOTO).

Happening now- (Chester, Il.)  Menard Prison Guards and responding medics are being transported to Chester, Illinois emergency room due to overdosing on unknown substances.

Monday, at the Menard maximum prison, an inmate was found overdosing. Responding prison guards immediately started also overdosing while rushing to the area to help the inmate. Since then, more guards are overdosing on the unknown substance. It is possible this is due to a cleanup effort. Today, correctional officers began having severe overdosing symptoms which Narcan did not help mitigate.

It is still unknown what substance has caused the correctional officers and the EMT workers to overdose while being in Menard maximum security Prison. It is unknown exactly how they are being exposed to this substance. Although, it seems to be related to the Monday incident.

On July 8th of this year, Menard correctional officers held a demonstration in the hopes the public would understand Menard prison is an unsafe work environment. They hoped that speaking up would help their work environment. They cited the fact that they are severely understaffed although higher-ups claimed they are not understaffed. They also expressed extreme concerns about inexperienced correctional officers being allowed to work in the segregation area. This is where the most dangerous inmates, inmates with life sentences, (or very extended sentences) are held.

We've had multiple involved parties reach out to us and they want the public to know that this is happening right now and they fear someone may lose their life. They fear it will happen again due to the severe staffing issues currently happening at the Menard prison.

So far there have been no fatalities reported. However, there are currently correctional officers overdosing by simply being in or near the area where Monday's incident occurred. This is the segregation area.

We will update this story. We hope the correctional officers, first responders and inmates affected recover from this very dangerous exposure.
