Group Defend Sports Minister Enoh Over N150 Million Car Controversy Report

The Civil Society Network for Good Governance has rejected claims that Senator John Owan Enoh, Minister of Sports Development, recently acquired a N150 million luxury vehicle. The group, led by Barrister Adefila Kamal, issued a statement clarifying that the purchase of vehicles was included in the ministry’s 2024 budget, and the minister was not personally involved in the procurement process.

Kamal explained that the vehicles were necessary for the ministry’s operations, addressing long-standing logistical challenges. “Officials have been relying on personal or malfunctioning vehicles, which hinders the smooth running of the ministry’s activities,” Kamal noted, stressing that these were practical, not extravagant, purchases.

The group also refuted any alleged ties between the Ministry of Sports Development and the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), emphasizing that the NFF operates as an independent entity, with no involvement from the ministry in its day-to-day operations.

The statement comes in the wake of public scrutiny following Nigeria’s performance at the 2024 Paris Olympics. Senator Enoh has been transparent about the country’s disappointing results, acknowledging the need for reforms in the sports sector. He has since committed to improving leadership within sports federations and focusing on the development of athletes across the country.

The Civil Society Network praised Senator Enoh’s honesty and drive for change, calling for public support in his efforts to revitalize Nigeria’s sports landscape.
