U.S announces visa curbs for some foreign nationals in South Africa Secretary of State Marco Rubio ‌said on Tuesday the U.S. government was announcing a new visa restriction policy targeting some foreign nationals in South Africa. The policy targets "foreign nationals who are responsible for, or complicit in, the enactment or implementation of laws or policies that enable uncompensated land seizures, race-based discrimination, and/or the incitement of imminent violence against members of minority ethnic or racial ‌groups in South Africa," Rubio said in a statement. "The South African government has not adequately addressed the previously laid out concerns," Rubio said, Reuters reported.  Kano State Electoral Body reduces cost of LG chairmanship form to N9million

The Kano State Independent Electoral Commission (KANSIEC) has adjusted the cost of chairmanship forms from 10 million to 9 million naira, and the forms for councilors from 5 million to 4 million naira following a court ruling.

KANSIEC chairman, Professor Sani Lawal Malumfashi, stated that the commission has the authority to set the prices but decided to comply with the court's order. He expressed the institution's respect for the court and its decision, despite the reluctance to reduce the price.

“We, as an institution, respect the court, but we feel pained in reducing the price.

“Because we are law-abiding, we have complied with the court’s order,” he said.

The chairman also appreciated the decision of opposition parties to take part in the upcoming local government council polls scheduled for October 26, emphasizing the importance of issue-based and non-violent campaigns. He further announced that the primary elections commenced on Saturday, September 14.

Looking ahead, Malumfashi assured that the state electoral body will ensure the council polls are conducted in a free, fair, and credible manner. He urged political parties to submit the names of their nominated candidates to the commission after the primary elections.

This fee adjustment also applies to the running mates of chairmanship candidates.
