 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  Police, Military launch joint operation against kidnapping in Imo


The Imo State Police Command, in a joint security operation with the military, has launched a specialized squad to smash and dismantle kidnapping, armed robbery and other violent criminal syndicates in the state.


A statement by the Police Public Relations Officer,(PPRO), ASP Henry Okoye disclosed that the joint effort underscores the Command’s unwavering commitment to ensuring the safety and security of communities in the state.


He said the operation will leverage the combined expertise and resources of both agencies to bring those responsible for the criminal activities to justice.


According to him, there were recent reports of increased kidnapping incidents in those areas which have raised significant concern among residents and students.


Okoye maintained that in responding to the development that the State Police Command has deployed a team of highly trained personnel to conduct focused operations aimed at neutralizing the threat posed by the criminal elements.


“Our objective is to enhance the peace and security of the State and to guarantee that educational institutions, including FUTO, remain safe environments for learning,” he stated.
