 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1.  2-storey building collapses in Umuahia


A two-storey building under construction in Amangwu Ohokobe Ndume, Umuahia North LGA of Abia State has collapsed.


The building which had just been roofed, collapsed on Saturday evening but fortunately, no worker was inside the house when it caved in.


The cause of the building collapse has not been established officially but some residents of Amangwu Ohokobe Ndume who spoke to Journalists after the incident blamed it on substandard materials allegedly used by the site Engineer while others blamed it on poor supervision of works.


The residents disclosed that workers were supposed to start on the interior parts of the house immediately after roofing but fortunately, it was postponed to a new date.


“The postponement was the saving grace for the workers because if they were at work when the house collapsed, who knows what would have happened to them?” Nkechi, a resident of Ohokobe said.


She added that the site Engineer had gone underground after the incident.


It would be recalled that a 3-storey building still under construction collapsed in June in Obingwu, Ukwa West LGA of Abia, killing five site workers.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
