Anambra State Government Takes Action Against Illegal Schools

By Obiageli Nwankwo

The Anambra State Government has established a Committee to address the issue of unregistered schools operating illegally within the state.

This committee, tasked with closing down all unapproved schools, met at the Ministry of Education to strategize on how to effectively execute its mandate.

During the meeting at the State Secretariat Complex, the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, urged the committee members to carry out their responsibilities with integrity, without fear or bias.

She highlighted that the illegal operation of schools has been an ongoing challenge in the state, which has resisted previous efforts to regulate it. However, with the current administration's zero-tolerance policy under Gov. Soludo and the formation of the new committee, the state aimed to put an end to the problem.

The commissioner also said that the ministry would provide the committee with a list of non-compliant schools and urged the operators of these schools to take necessary steps to avoid being shut down.

Data from the ministry revealed that there are over 1000 unapproved schools in the state.
