 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1. APPEAL COURT NULLIFIES RIVERS BUDGET PASSED BY PRO- FUBARA LAWMAKERS. (PHOTO).

 Appeal Court nullifies Rivers budget passed by pro-Fubara lawmakers


The Court of Appeal sitting in Abuja, on Thursday, October 10, 2024, affirmed the judgement of the Federal High Court which set aside the N800 billion budget passed by five members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.


The lawmakers led by the Edison Ehie-led group are loyalists of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.


The Appeal Court dismissed the appeal filed by Fubara for lacking merit.


The court declared that the governor withdrew his counter-affidavit at the lower court in the matter and as such cannot commence an appeal in a matter he didn’t challenge at the trial stage.


The also affirmed Martins Amaewhule speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, slams 500k against appellant


"This Appeal is bereft of merit and hereby dismissed, the Judgment of the lower court is hereby affirmed. Cost of 500k awarded against the Appellant.


"All expenditure done by Rivers State Governor without the Appropriation of Rt.Hon.Martins is illegal to the extent of its expenditures


"The Appellant Governor of Rivers State treated Court Order with disdain


“You cannot by way of Appeal seek to revive what has been decided,” the court ruled.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
