Limpopo Police Officer Arrested for Alleged Insurance Fraud and Murder

A 43-year-old police sergeant in Limpopo has been arrested for allegedly killing six people, exploiting vulnerable individuals, including those with disabilities or mental challenges, for insurance payouts amounting to R10 million.

The victims were known to her and came from disadvantaged backgrounds. She would take out life and funeral policies on their behalf, naming herself as the beneficiary.

The sergeant allegedly benefited from funeral, accidental, and life policy covers from various banks and insurance companies. She is linked to six insurance-related murders, with evidence showing she pocketed at least R10 million.

Her victims were mostly destitute, disadvantaged, disabled, or mentally challenged individuals. The arrest followed a lengthy investigation led by Captain Keshi Mabunda. A warrant was obtained, and the sergeant was arrested at her workplace, the Senwabarwana police station in Limpopo.

National Police Commissioner General Fannie Masemola condemned the sergeant's actions, stating that it's an absolute disgrace for a police officer to be involved in such heinous crimes. The sergeant is expected to appear before the Polokwane District Court on six counts of murder and 17 cases of fraud on Friday, October 11, 2024.
