 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Tinubu appoints four ministers from Ogun


President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Jumoke Oduwole to head the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Investment, marking her the fourth minister from Ogun State in his cabinet.


Daily Trust reports that it is uncommon to have more than two ministers from one state in the federal cabinet.


During the Federal Executive Council meeting on Wednesday, Tinubu announced the appointment of seven new ministers.


The new ministers include Ambassador Bianca Odumegwu Ojukwu, widow of the late Ikemba of Nnewi, as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs; and Jumoke Oduwole, ex-Executive Secretary to the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council, as Minister of Industry, Trade and Investment.


Others are Dr Nentawe Yilwatda, Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction; Muhammadu Maigari Dingyadi, Minister of Labour and Employment; Idi Mukhtar Maiha, Ministry of Livestock Development; Rt. Hon. Yusuf Abdullahi Ata, Minister of State, Housing and Urban Development; and Dr Suwaiba Said Ahmad, Minister of State Education.


Sunday Dare, a former Minister of Sports, has been appointed Special Adviser to the President on Public Communication and Orientation.


The president also relieved five ministers from their positions.


With Oduwole’s appointment, Ogun State now boasts four ministers in the federal cabinet: Adekunle Salako (Minister of State for Environment); Bosun Tijani (Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy); and Wale Edun (Minister of Finance).
