 Meta to end end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages Meta is ending end-to-end encryption for Instagram direct messages, a feature the company says will no longer be available after May 8, 2026. Unlike WhatsApp, Instagram never offered encryption to all users or as a default; only select users in certain regions could opt in on a per-chat basis. A Meta spokesperson explained that the decision comes due to low adoption. “Very few people were opting in to end-to-end encrypted messaging in DMs, so we’re removing this option from Instagram in the coming months,” the spokesperson said. “Anyone who wants to keep messaging with end-to-end encryption can easily do that on WhatsApp.” Meta’s messaging strategy has shifted multiple times over the years. WhatsApp chats have been encrypted since 2016, and the company began rolling out default encryption for Messenger in 2023.  Jigawa Governor Suspends Commissioner Nabbed With Married Woman


Governor Umar A. Namadi of Jigawa State has approved the immediate suspension of Auwalu Dalladi Sankara as Honourable Commissioner Ministry of Special Duties and member of the State Executive Council pending an investigation into allegations made by the Kano State Hisbah.

This was contained in a statement signed by the Secretary to the Government of Jigawa State Malam Bala Ibrahim


He said the decision was in light of recent claims that necessitate a thorough examination to ensure transparency and uphold the integrity of the State Administration.


The SSG emphasized the commitment to accountability and adherence to ethical standards in governance by Governor Malam Umar A. Namadi.

“The suspension is a precautionary measure intended to facilitate a fair investigation,” said the Secretary to the State Government, Malam Bala Ibrahim.

“We take all allegations seriously and are dedicated to upholding the trust of Jigawa citizens in the government.”

On Friday, the Kano Hisbah Board confirmed the arrest and detention of Sankaraa, saying he would be charged to court, on Monday.


According to Hisbah Director General, Abba Sufi, the commissioner was found with Tasleem Baba Nabegu, who is married with two kids.

“Yes, it is true we have arrested Auwal Danladi Sankara, the Jigawa Commissioner, with a married woman in an uncompleted building that belongs to him.

“Unknown to him, we were tracking him based on reports we received against him,” the Hisbah Director General said.

The arrest followed a complaint by Nasiru Bulama, the woman’s husband, who accused the commissioner of engaging in an  affair with his wife.

“Nasiru Bulama filed the complaint with the Kano State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Hisbah Board, alleging Sankara’s involvement in illicit sexual activities with his wife,” the official added.


He said: “We have been having problems with Sankara because he is operating illicit drugs Centers in the names of hotels with prostitution and drug addiction activities”.
