A four-decade-old land dispute between two groups became the cause of a brutal murder in Jaunpur, Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, with a few men chopping off a 17-year-old boy’s head with a sword. The teenager’s grieving mother sat for hours with her son’s severed head in her lap, consumed by sorrow.

The police reported that there had been a long-standing dispute over land between the two parties. On Wednesday, this dispute escalated into a violent clash. During the confrontation, several members of the opposing side chased a 17-year-old boy. They struck him with a sword with such force that his head was severed from his body. In the aftermath of the incident, the police arrested two individuals.

Several police teams were dispatched to the scene to maintain order and prevent the situation from worsening. Villagers reported that the boy’s mother sat for several hours with his severed head in her lap.

Superintendent of Police Ajay Pal Sharma said, “The land dispute has been festering for 40 to 45 years. Two people from one of the parties, Ramesh and Laalta, were among those who attacked the opposite side and one person was killed. The district magistrate and I are at the spot. Some of the accused have been taken into custody and are being questioned. Further investigation is on.”

According to UPTak, the victim, Anurag Yadav, was a student at Raj College and an accomplished Taekwondo player. He had won a bronze medal at the Indo-Nepal International Taekwondo Competition in Chandauli and a silver medal at the Open Nationals in Noida, the report noted.
