 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Botswana's First Lady Kneels Before Husband During His Inauguration 


Duma Boko's inauguration ceremony as president of the Republic of Botswana was full of pomp and colour.


Boko, 54, inaugurated just nine days after his party beat the Botswana Democratic Party, which governed for six decades.


Boko is a human rights lawyer who is considered a social democrat.He read law at the University of Botswana and at Harvard Law School. He was raised in a modest family in Mahalapye, a village 200km from the country’s capital, Gaborone.

Her kneeling in front of her husband during one of the most important days of his life was a sign of respect.


The ceremony was a moment of pride and joy, particularly for Kaone, who was visibly emotional when she witnessed her husband take the presidential oath.

Married since 2015, Kaone is an accomplished lawyer who worked in her and husband's law firm and for his political campaigns. She has been an active supporter of initiatives aimed at tackling critical national issues such as unemployment and economic diversification.

Many in Botswana expressed admiration for her commitment and strength at the weekend.
