 Dolly Parton returns to public eye to celebrate opening day at Dollywood     Dolly Parton made her first public appearance in months to celebrate the opening day of Dollywood in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, on Friday. The country music icon reflected on the past year, a year after the death of her husband of nearly 60 years, Carl Dean, saying she is “doing good” and has been working to rebuild herself spiritually, emotionally, and physically after grieving and dealing with health issues that kept her from touring. Joined on stage by Dollywood president Eugene Naughton, Parton brought her trademark humor to the crowd, joking about rumors of a new husband while reaffirming her devotion to Dean.  Civil Society Groups Threaten Protest Over NNPCL’s PMS Importation Decision


The Coalition of Civil Society Organizations (NICOSO) has warned of nationwide protests in response to the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited’s (NNPCL) plan to import over 1.6 billion litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS). The group criticized the move as not only a policy blunder but also a calculated effort to undermine Nigeria’s local refining capacity, worsen the economy, and increase the hardships faced by ordinary citizens. 


NICOSO's spokesperson, Mr. Tabuko Kennedy, argued that the decision would place unnecessary strain on Nigeria’s foreign exchange reserves, worsening the already struggling Naira and contributing to rising inflation. He further emphasized that importing such a large volume of fuel undermines Nigeria's push for energy independence and wastes resources that could have supported local refineries.


Kennedy also expressed concern over the reported poor quality of the imported PMS, which he said is damaging vehicles and increasing maintenance costs for Nigerians, particularly affecting small business owners and drivers. He called on the government to prioritize the development of local refineries and reject policies that harm the economy and compromise the nation’s future.
