 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being. Enugu Council Chairman Appoints Special Assistants On ‘Yam, Pepper, Garden Egg’


The chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Mr Eric Odo, has made two key appointments focusing on developing the agricultural sectors of “yam, pepper, and garden egg.”


While one Ezeugwu Ogbonna was appointed as the Senior Special Assistant on agriculture, focusing on yam and pepper, Nwodo Ugonna serve as Special Adviser on garden egg and pepper.


In an appointment letter dated November 1, Ogbonna’s appointment is temporary and at the pleasure of the executive chairman.


Ogbonna is expected to report to the executive chairman at Ogbede for briefing and deployment.


It is worth noting that Igbo Etiti LGA is one of the 17 local government areas in Enugu State.


The appointment letter cited by The Recorderng on Tuesday, partly read: “I am pleased to inform you that the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA has approved your appointment as senior special assistant to the local government chairman on agriculture (yam and pepper).


“You should report to the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA, Ogbede, for briefing and deployment.


“It is pertinent to note that this is not a career civil service appointment but a temporary appointment which you hold at the pleasure of the executive chairman of Igbo Etiti LGA.”.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
