 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1. Sad to learn of the passing of the very first Miss World, Kerstin Margareta "Kiki" HÃ¥kansson, at the age of 95.


Swedish beauty Kiki won the very first Miss World title back in 1951 and remains the only winner to be crowned in a bikini. 


The pageant world sends its condolences to Kiki's son Chris and her entire family at the loss of an iconic queen.


Rest assured that this trailblazing lady will never be forgotten.

Kiki Hakansson, the first-ever Miss World, passed away at the age of 95. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in California on Monday, November 4. Her family confirmed she was “comfortable, peaceful, and well cared for” in her final days. The news was shared via the official Miss World Instagram account. Born in Sweden, Kiki Hakansson made history in 1951 when she was crowned Miss World at the pageant held in London.


Originally conceived as a one-time event for the 1951 Festival of Britain, the Miss World competition became a global institution following Kiki Hakansson’s historic victory. In a tribute on social media, the official Miss World page expressed deep sorrow over her passing, offering condolences to her family and sending prayers during this difficult time.


Kiki Hakansson’s son, Chris Anderson, honored her memory by describing her as “genuine, kind, loving,” and added, “She is known and will be missed for her warmth and generosity.” Miss World president Julia Morley also paid tribute, stating, “Kiki was a true lead and so it was fitting that Kiki takes her place in history as the first Miss World.” Morley further remarked, “We will continue to celebrate the memories of the first Miss World, Kerstin (Kiki) Hakansson, for eternity. She will always be in our hearts.”


Kiki Hakansson’s passing marks the end of an era for the Miss World pageant, but her legacy as the first winner will endure for generations. As a trailblazer, she paved the way for countless women who followed in her footsteps.
