 No good deed goes unpunished.  A Florida sea tow captain saved a man from a burning ship only to be shoved overboard and have his boat stolen. This shocking incident occurred near Marco Island on March 6th. On that date, a call went out regarding a burning boat. The captain of a sea tow boat heard the distress call and rushed to provide aid. He was able to quickly locate the burning boat and  discovered 40-year-old, Ryan Deiter, and his dog onboard the burning ship. Wasting no time, the captain of the sea tow boat was able to maneuver alongside the distressed boat and begin efforts to extricate Deiter and his dog from the doomed vessel.  Eventually, the sea tow captain was able to pull both Deiter and his dog onboard the tow boat. However, once Deiter was pulled to safety, he repaid a stranger's kindness with treachery.  Deiter shoved the captain from his own boat and fled the scene in the stolen boat, leaving the man who had just risked his own vessel and life...

 SANWO-OLU COMMENDS LSACA AS 1,323 BENEFIT FROM FREE HIV/AIDS SCREENING, COUNSELING SERVICE 


The Lagos State Governor, Mr Babajide Sanwo Olu has  commended the dedication of the State AIDS Control Agency (LSACA) in the fight against the spread of HIV/AIDS in the state


Sanwo-Olu made this known while inspecting the LSACA booths as part of his activities during the closing ceremony of the Y2024 Trade Fair recently held at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos


The Governor, who emphasised the commitment of the state government to the provisions of sustainable healthcare delivery for its residents, added that the state recognized the significance of maintaining good health for greater productivity.


Sanwo-Olu commended the high turnout of participants for the free HIV screening and counselling exercise, stressing that early detection is a crucial step for accessing quality care. He also noted that the initiative was aimed at increasing awareness and providing accessible healthcare services to enable more individuals to know their status and seek timely support if necessary.


While assuring that the present administration will not relent in putting in place strategies geared toward the provision of a sustainable healthcare system, the Governor urged residents to improve their health-seeking behaviours to remain healthy and productive members of society.


On her part, the Chief Executive Officer of LSACA, Dr. Folakemi Animashaun stated that the free screening exercise was aimed at creating awareness and providing preventative support to attendees and Exhibitors at the event as free HIV screening and Counselling service is one of the strategies deployed by the agency in reaching members of the community.


Dr. Animashaun explained further that the Trade FAIR attracted diverse groups of individuals, including entrepreneurs, business owners, and visitors, all of whom were eager to learn more about HIV and its impact on public health. 


In her words, "The positive response from participants reflects a growing commitment to health and preventative measures in the fight against HIV as the free screening initiative not only serves to increase awareness about HIV but also fosters responsible practices within the community to reduce the risk of transmission".


She further assured that the Agency will continue such initiatives in future events to promote health awareness and reduce the stigma associated with HIV testing, urging residents to take proactive steps towards taking care of their health.


Underscoring the significance of HIV testing for maintaining a healthy and productive life, Animashaun emphasised that the state is focused on improving access to healthcare services, increasing awareness campaigns, and has also expanded the availability of HIV testing and counselling centres across the state to curb the spread of the virus.


The CEO, however, commended the organisers of the trade fair for a successful event, which allowed greater community engagement and awareness as the trade fair served as a successful venue for not only showcasing businesses but also promoting health and wellness in the state.
