HOODLUMS TURN NORTH BANK OF MAKURDI INTO KILLING FIELD, RESIDENTS FLEE, LIVE IN FEAR

The North Bank part of Makurdi metropolis in Benue State is slowly becoming a no go area following the activities of hoodlums operating and freely killing innocent people in the area.

Just within last week, about six persons were reportedly killed by the hoodlums operating in the area, pushing the residents of the area to live in fears as no one knows what would happen in the next moment.

NATIONAL ACCORD investigation has shown that a lot of people have deserted that part of the city for safety as no one knows who would be the next victim.

One Boniface Tor, who is a resident of Akpehe, a suburb of Makurdi, said some members of his family live in North Bank adding that his people were not sleeping with both eyes closed as he emphasized that North Bank has become a volatile area.

He lamented that there were no security operatives to check the hoodlums’ excesses  even as they attack, injure and kill their victims unchallenged.

NATIONAL ACCORD learnt that hoodlums operate freely both in the night and in the day time attacking and even killing innocent people indiscriminately even as they also rob residents of their belongings.

Our checks have it that North Bank was slowly wearing a ghost look but the major areas affected as confirmed include: Federal Housing, Ter Guma street, Day Spring, ECWA secondary school, Udei street and Federal Low Cost.

A staff of the Ministry of Defence, who works at NASME Barracks in North Bank, Mrs. Christiana Iveren Tyav equally lamented the volatile nature of the area.

Mrs. Tyav said she no longer runs evening and night shifts conveniently as she sleeps in the barracks so as not to risk her life in the night in the hands of the hoodlums while closing from work.

An eyewitness, who volunteered to speak to NATIONAL ACCORD, said some students of Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University and Akawe Torkula Polytechnic have also fallen victims of these hoodlums at SRS junction as they attacked them in the day time, collected their handsets and money and left them helpless.

The eyewitness noted also that the attackers do not hesitate to even kill when their victim tries to struggle with them and insisted that North Bank area is becoming a different thing.

Efforts to reach the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) Benue State Command for comment proved futile as her numbers were not going through.
