 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1.  Israeli PM Netanyahu sacks defense minister


Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has sacked his defense minister, Yoav Gallant.

Netanyahu and Gallant had clashed publicly over the course of the more than year-long war against Hamas in the Gaza Strip and in the Middle East.

Netanyahu said he fired Gallant due to trust issues and “gaps” between them in the management of the war.

“In the midst of a war, more than ever, full trust is required between the prime minister and defense minister,” Netanyahu said in a statement. “Unfortunately, although in the first months of the campaign there was such trust and there was very fruitful work, during the last months this trust cracked between me and the defense minister.”

Netanyahu has reportedly nominated Israel’s foreign minister, Yisrael Katz as Gallant’s replacement.

However, Gallant in his own statement vowed that the “security of the state of Israel always was, and will always remain my life’s mission.”

Gallant’s firing occurred shortly after Israel carried out an attack against Iran that dismantled key areas of its air defense, and struck military sites.

Biden urged Netanyahu against more provocative attacks on Iranian nuclear sites or oil facilities.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
