The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor.  Medical outreach: Unconscious patients recover after Abia Govt’s intervention

More natives of Abiriba, in Ohafia local government of Abia State who were rushed to hospitals after consuming drugs donated by a group on Saturday, have recovered.

They include those who were unconscious the day they were admitted.

The ongoing recovery of the victims followed swift intervention of the Abia State government, Ohafia local government Chairman, Abiriba community leaders and special efforts by medical staff of the hospitals where they were taken to.

Reports gathered from hospitals in Abiriba, Umunneato and Umuahia showed that many of the victims have recovered, some stabilized and discharged, while some other victims are still in hospitals battling serious health conditions.

The report disclosed that more than 50 persons suffered different forms of health crises after consuming the drugs they received at the free medical outreach which was put together by a group.

Abia State ministry of health had in an official statement on Sunday night said the Abiriba medical outreach was conducted without approval from the ministry, warning that medical outreach should not be held anywhere in the State again without the authorization of the State government.

Commissioner for Health, Professor Enoch Uche also said that preliminary investigation by his ministry indicated that the “unsuspecting recipients” of the free medical outreach may have suffered from adverse drug reactions from the medications they received.

Also, the Commissioner for Information, Okey Kanu while briefing the press on Monday, said it has become an offense for anybody or group to organize a free medical outreach in any part of the State without getting approval from the ministry of health.

However, he did not say if any disciplinary action had been taken against those involved in the Abiriba medical anomaly.
