 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. ONDO ELECTIONS: DIG ELECTIONS INSPECTS POLLING UNITS, COLLATION CENTRES, AS POLLS WIND DOWN.


Charges Officers on Vigilance, Safety Protocols.


As the polls draw to a close, the Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of the Ondo State Gubernatorial Elections, DIG Sylvester Abiodun Alabi, fdc, has conducted series of rigorous inspections of polling units and collation centres aimed at ensuring the integrity and transparency of the electoral process. 


These inspections aim to guarantee that all voting materials are accounted for, and that the counting and collation of votes are conducted in a fair and orderly manner.


The DIG further charged the officers deployed for election security to ensure a constant state of vigilance, restricting any unauthorized movement of persons in and out of the collation centres. Officers are to emplace strict safety protocols to prevent any potential disruptions or irregularities that could compromise the integrity of the elections.


The Nigeria Police Force reiterates its commitment to emplacing adequate security measures to ensure the electoral process is conducted free and fair. The Inspector-General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, Ph.D., NPM., further assures members of the public, particularly the good citizens of Ondo State, of the highest standard of security throughout the electoral process and even afterwards.
