 Kebbi Govt Donates 10 Hilux Vehicles to Boost Security on Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway  The Kebbi State Government has handed over 10 brand-new Hilux vehicles to the Federal Ministry of Works to strengthen security for personnel working on the Sokoto–Badagry Super Highway project. The vehicles were formally received by the Minister of State for Works, Bello Muhammad Goronyo, who praised Kebbi State Governor, Dr. Nasiru Idris (Kauran Gwandu), for the donation. Goronyo described the gesture as a clear demonstration of the state government’s commitment to protecting workers and contractors on the strategic highway corridor. He explained that the vehicles will be deployed exclusively to security operatives providing cover for construction teams along the section of the super highway passing through Kebbi State.  POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED AFTER MURDER OF WIFE AND DOMESTIC WORKER


A 44-year-old Police Sargeant has been arrested following the alleged shooting of his wife and domestic worker at their homestead in Masisi, Vhembe district, on the evening of 29 October 2024. The Sergeant has been on the run since then, until his subsequent arrest following a shootout with police on Thursday night, 31 October 2024.

The suspect was located in the Makuya policing area after a well co-ordinated operation by Vhembe SAPS District Task team members. He was spotted driving at high speed along Tshitavha road next to Sambandou bridge.


When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect started firing multiple shots at them, prompting the police to respond swiftly. The suspect was wounded in the exchange, and one police officer sustained minor injuries. The Police recovered a service pistol and ammunition.


Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.


The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified for further handling of the case following the shooting ordeal.


The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the rapid response of members in Vhembe district.


“We wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assure the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards our officers. A special appreciation goes to our members for ensuring that the suspect is apprehended swiftly. This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.


The suspect is expected to appear before the Masisi Magistrate’s Court soon, facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.
