 BADAGRY ANGELS WIN LAGOS SOFTBALL TOURNEY  Badagry Angels have been crowned champions of the Lagos U-15 Softball Championship held recently at the Badagry Grammar School playing field, Badagry. The five-day tournament, which began on November 11, 2024, ended on Friday, November 15 where eight teams participated in the competition designed to drive the growth of the sport at the grassroots level. As Champions of the tournament, Badagry Angels showcased their dexterity and skills against Rak Angels in the grand finale, maintaining their good position and dominance on the field before finally trouncing their opponents 9 runs to 1.  POLICE SERGEANT ARRESTED AFTER MURDER OF WIFE AND DOMESTIC WORKER


A 44-year-old Police Sargeant has been arrested following the alleged shooting of his wife and domestic worker at their homestead in Masisi, Vhembe district, on the evening of 29 October 2024. The Sergeant has been on the run since then, until his subsequent arrest following a shootout with police on Thursday night, 31 October 2024.

The suspect was located in the Makuya policing area after a well co-ordinated operation by Vhembe SAPS District Task team members. He was spotted driving at high speed along Tshitavha road next to Sambandou bridge.


When officers attempted to stop the vehicle, the suspect started firing multiple shots at them, prompting the police to respond swiftly. The suspect was wounded in the exchange, and one police officer sustained minor injuries. The Police recovered a service pistol and ammunition.


Both the suspect and the injured officer were transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.


The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) has been notified for further handling of the case following the shooting ordeal.


The Provincial Commissioner of Police in Limpopo, Lieutenant General Thembi Hadebe has commended the rapid response of members in Vhembe district.


“We wish the injured member a speedy recovery and assure the public that the suspect will face the full consequences of his actions, particularly for his refusal to surrender and the violence he displayed towards our officers. A special appreciation goes to our members for ensuring that the suspect is apprehended swiftly. This case will be monitored closely to ensure justice is served,” said Lieutenant General Hadebe.


The suspect is expected to appear before the Masisi Magistrate’s Court soon, facing two counts of murder and attempted murder.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
