SGF Akume Urges Unity Among Tiv Ethnic Group at Tiv Cultural Fiesta 2024

The Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), Senator George Akume, has called on the Tiv ethnic group to prioritize unity and collaboration for their collective progress. He made this appeal during the grand finale of the Tiv Cultural Fiesta 2024, held at the National Stadium in Surulere, Lagos, on Saturday, November 16.

The event, which took place from November 15 to 16, was themed “Tiv Heritage: Promoting Unity, Preserving Culture and Traditions”. It brought together Tiv men and women from various sectors to celebrate and showcase their cultural heritage.

Represented by his Chief of Staff, Mr. Christopher Tarka, the SGF praised the efforts of the Tiv Community in Lagos (Mdzough U Tiv Lagos) for their dedication to preserving their culture. He encouraged the community to foster unity and extend fellowship to others, particularly President Bola Tinubu, who, according to Akume, holds the Tiv people in high regard. Akume assured the community that under Tinubu’s leadership, the Tiv people would continue to be recognized and involved in national affairs.

In his address, the President of the Tiv Community in Lagos, Hon. Steven Terfa Uzer, called for unity among the Tiv people, urging them to put aside differences and focus on the common goal of advancing the community. He emphasized that the group's diversity should be seen as a strength.

Hon. Atondu Thomas, Chairman of the Community Planning Committee (CPC), shared the community's plans for future development, including acquiring land to build a communal space, Ayatutu House, in Lagos.

The event was attended by several notable figures, including His Royal Highness, Tor Tiv Lagos, Chief Cletus Kukunu, and HRH Luke Atane Och’Idoma Akubo Agaba Idu of Lagos, who expressed interest in collaborating with Mdzough U Tiv Lagos on future cultural initiatives. Other key attendees included ESV Kwaghbo Simeon Shangev-de, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Tiv Community in Lagos, and businessman Mr. Terry Atoba.
