 M23 says hundreds of Burundi soldiers captured in latest Congo offensive The Rwanda-backed M23 group has captured hundreds of Burundian soldiers during its latest offensive in eastern Democratic Republic of Congo, a rebel official said, as clashes continued despite a warning from the Trump administration. Last week M23 entered the strategic town of Uvira near the border with Burundi, less than a week after the presidents of Congo and Rwanda met in Washington with U.S. President Donald Trump and affirmed their commitment to a peace deal known as the Washington Accords. U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio said on Saturday that Rwanda's actions in eastern Congo violated the Washington Accords and vowed to "take action to ensure promises made to the President are kept". Rwanda denies supporting M23 and has blamed Congolese and Burundian forces for the renewed fighting.  UK Will Not Pay Out Reparations for Slavery in Cash, Foreign Secretary Says


The concept of reparations doesn’t necessarily mean paying out money but also sharing skills and experience, UK’s Foreign Secretary David Lammy said in an interview to a Western TV broadcaster during his trip to Nigeria, Sputnik reported.


"The concept of reparations for former colonial nations affected by slavery is not about the transfer of cash, particularly at a time of a cost of living crisis," David Lammy said, as quoted by the media.


The report noted that the UK has never apologized for its policy in colonial time, although Lammy stated the opposite.


Earlier, Zimbabwean President Emmerson Mnangagwa said that the UK should apologize and pay reparations for colonizing Zimbabwe. The president pointed out that the UK and Germany had apologized to the Mau Mau of Kenya and the Mbanderu, Herero, and Nama in Namibia, respectively. He underscored that the time had come for Zimbabwe to achieve justice for the country.
