Ebonyi Governor Orders Warring Communities to Stay Away from Disputed Land
Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has declared a disputed land between Umobor-Akaeze and Ogwor-Ishiagu in Ivo Local Government Area as a buffer zone, amidst ongoing conflicts between the two communities over its ownership.
Nwifuru has instructed both communities to avoid the land, warning that anyone found on it will face legal consequences. He also directed security agencies to enhance patrols in the area to ensure adherence to the directive and maintain order. A statement issued on Thursday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Grace Umezurike, also announced a meeting with 20 stakeholders from each community, scheduled for Monday, December 16, 2024.

SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
