Ebonyi Governor Gives Striking Workers 72-Hour Ultimatum: "Report to Work or Lose Your Job"

Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has issued a stern 72-hour ultimatum to striking workers, demanding they resume work or face dismissal. The warning follows a seven-day strike by the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in the state over the non-implementation of the new minimum wage.

Addressing journalists on Monday at the new Government House in Abakaliki, Governor Nwifuru stated that the state is not in arrears and has already started paying the newly approved N75,000 minimum wage.

He further warned, “If you refuse to report to work, not only will your salary be withheld, but you will also be replaced within 72 hours. If you're absent, consider yourself dismissed. I am not responsible for any unpaid wages."

Nwifuru emphasized that the state government is fulfilling its financial responsibilities, and employees who fail to return to work will not be compensated. He instructed the Civil Service Commission and relevant officials to monitor attendance, stating that only those present will be paid.
