The Nigerian Upstream Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) has confirmed plans for a new oil bidding round in 2025, aimed at attracting investments, boosting oil and gas reserves, and enhancing Nigeria’s production capacity. NUPRC’s Chief Executive, Engr. Gbenga Komolafe, revealed that the 2025 round would focus on undeveloped fields and natural gas development to align with Nigeria’s UN Sustainable Development Goals.
Speaking at the 2024 Licensing Round Commercial Bid Conference in Lagos, Komolafe emphasized that the 2025 exercise would unlock Nigeria’s hydrocarbon potential, drive economic growth, and attract investors. He added that the NUPRC aims to responsibly and sustainably develop the nation’s oil and gas resources.
Meanwhile, the winners of the 2024 Licensing Round, which launched in May, will be announced today. This year’s round featured 24 carefully selected blocks, with a total of 31 blocks available, including seven carried over from the 2022 Mini Bid Round. The 2024 exercise is designed with a focus on transparency, accountability, and environmental responsibility.
Komolafe also highlighted the importance of collaboration between local and international companies, promoting local content, and creating employment. The NUPRC’s initiatives aim to drive exploration and development, ensuring Nigeria’s position as a leading energy player.
