IRU/VI LCDA CHAIRMAN GRADUATES SOLAR TECHNOLOGY TRAINEES, UNVEILS SOLAR KIOSKS FOR RESIDENTS

The Executive Chairman of IRU/Victoria Island Local Council Development Area (LCDA), Princess Rasheedat Abiodun Adu has successfully graduated trainees from a one-month free intensive training programme on Solar Technology System Design and Installation.

The event also featured the unveiling of Solar Kiosks designed and built by the trainees for the benefit of all residents of the LCDA.

In her remarks at the event, the Chairman emphasised the critical role of youth empowerment in fostering community development. “The importance of youth in society cannot be overemphasised. This training is a testament to our commitment to equipping young people with practical skills that ensure self-reliance. Not everyone will secure white-collar jobs, but the skills you acquire will remain valuable for a lifetime. I urge you to stay focused, productive, and make the most of this opportunity”, she stated.

The Chairman further described the Solar Kiosks as a community-oriented project, saying “These Kiosks, built by the trainees, will serve as power hubs for residents to charge their electrical appliances. This is a step forward in our mission to promote sustainable energy solutions”.

Engr. Olajide Habeeb, Lead Facilitator from Emerald Renewable Africa (TERA), commended the initiative, noting that the training was of international standard and offered beneficiaries a competitive edge in the green energy sector.

“This programme has opened doors to significant opportunities in the labour market, government agencies, and private organisations”, he remarked.

In recognition of exceptional performance, the outstanding students from the training programme will be rewarded with a free one-year paid internship, solar business certification, and other incentives to further enhance their career prospects.

The Youth Leader of the Council, Hon. Timi Durojaiye and Traditional Leaders present at the event praised Princess Adu for her unwavering support for youth development in the LCDA. They encouraged the beneficiaries to excel and become ambassadors of the programme in the labour market.

The overall best student, Sadiq Muhammad Ayomide, expressed gratitude to the Chairman on behalf of the trainees. “Your motherly care and support have been our motivation. We promise to make you proud as we apply what we’ve learned to create value in our communities”, he pledged.

The ceremony was attended by an array of dignitaries, including the Vice Chairman, Hon. Segun Ogunbiyi; Secretary to the Local Government; Supervisors; Councillors; traditional leaders; LGA Party Chairman; political leaders; and other stakeholders.
