 LASG HOSTS Y2024 WOMEN'S ASSEMBLY TO EMPOWER, CELEBRATE WOMEN Lagos State Governor, Mr. Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has reaffirmed his administration's commitment to advancing and empowering women, describing them as the pillars of communities, contributing in numerous ways as mothers, entrepreneurs, educators and leaders.  Governor Sanwo-Olu stated this in his keynote address at the 2024 Women's Assembly for Local Government and Local Council Development Areas organised by the Ministry of Women's Affairs and Poverty Alleviation (WAPA) at the De Blue Roof, LTV 8 complex, Agindigbi Ikeja.  The Governor, represented by the Secretary to the State Governor, Bimbola Salu-Hundeyin, described the Assembly as a critical platform for celebrating women’s contributions and tackling challenges affecting their well-being.  Multiple Children Feared Dead in Ibadan Carnival Stampede


A stampede at a carnival in Ibadan, Oyo State, has reportedly claimed the lives of many children. The incident occurred on Wednesday in the Bashorun area of Ibadan.


While the exact number of casualties has not been confirmed, it is known that several victims were rushed to hospitals across the Ibadan metropolis.


The carnival, scheduled for Wednesday, saw many parents bring their children to the venue on Tuesday, with others arriving in the early hours of Wednesday. The rush to enter the event space led to a stampede, resulting in multiple fatalities, with many children feared dead.


Efforts by DAILY POST to get a statement from the Oyo State Police Command's Public Relations Officer, Adewale Osifeso, were unsuccessful. However, the Oyo State Government has confirmed the tragedy.


Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Dotun Oyelade, confirmed the incident, stating that a private children’s fun fair at Basorun Islamic High School led to the stampede, which resulted in several deaths and injuries. He assured that a rapid response team was mobilized and victims were swiftly transported to various hospitals for medical care.
