 GUNMEN KILL EX-GUMA COUNCILLOR AT HIS HOME IN BENUE  A former councillor, Hon. Paul Mbatsaver Azahaan, has been killed by gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen in Benue State, sparking fresh fears over insecurity in rural communities. Azahaan, who represented Nzorov Council Ward in Guma Local Government Area, was reportedly attacked late on Saturday night, December 13, 2025, at his residence in Tse Azahaan village, Mbagen, Nzorov Ward. According to local sources, the assailants stormed his home under the cover of darkness and launched a deadly attack, leaving the former councillor dead before fleeing the scene. The killing has plunged the community into mourning and heightened anxiety among residents, many of whom say insecurity has continued to worsen across the area. NAFDAC DECLARES ABA'S EZIUKWU MARKET A HUB FOR DANGEROUS FAKE PRODUCTS. (PHOTOS).

 𝗡𝗔𝗙𝗗𝗔𝗖 𝗗𝗲𝗰𝗹𝗮𝗿𝗲𝘀 𝗔𝗯𝗮’𝘀 𝗘𝘇𝗶𝘂𝗸𝘄𝘂 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗮 𝗛𝘂𝗯 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗿𝗼𝘂𝘀 𝗙𝗮𝗸𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀


National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has described Eziukwu Market, also known as Cemetery Market in Aba, Abia State, as a centre for the mass production and distribution of fake and substandard products, likening the situation to weapons of mass destruction.


This revelation came during a lengthy operation led by Martins Iluyomade, Director of NAFDAC’s South-East Zone. 


Iluyomade stated that despite previous crackdowns, including a major operation in December 2023, illegal activities persist in the market.


He said it was baffling that individuals remained recalcitrant and determined to make money at the expense of the lives of their fellow citizens. 


He further explained that during the last operation, the leadership of the market had signed an undertaking with NAFDAC to identify and expose those involved in the production and sale of fake goods. 


According to him, the agency would revisit this agreement, as market leaders now have serious questions to answer.


Enyimba FM reports that the raid uncovered an alarming range of fake and adulterated products, including wines, whiskey, yogurt, carbonated drinks, chips, dry gin, and other beverages. 


These items were found either being produced in unsanitary conditions within the market or stored in sections where expired products were re-labelled with new dates for redistribution to unsuspecting consumers.


Iluyomade pointed out that the sheer volume of expired products being re-validated was deeply troubling. 


He advised consumers to remain vigilant and cautious about the products they purchase to avoid endangering their health.


NAFDAC has reaffirmed its commitment to identifying and prosecuting those responsible for these nefarious activities, as part of its broader effort to safeguard public health.
