 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots.  Police Detain Human Rights Lawyer Farotimi Over Defamation Charges


Human rights lawyer Dele Farotimi has reportedly been arrested by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force.


The arrest was first announced by Omoyele Sowore, the 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress, via a post on his X account on Tuesday. Sowore demanded Farotimi's immediate release, stating that the police should not be used to settle personal disputes.


Sowore wrote, “It is important for the Nigerian police to understand that the force should not be used for personal vendettas. Citizens will no longer tolerate this misuse of power. We call on the police at Zone 2 in Lagos to release Barrister Dele Farotimi immediately.”


However, Police spokesperson SP Ummar Ayuba at the Zone 2 Command denied the arrest, saying, “We have not made any arrest. He is not in our custody.”


Meanwhile, Ekiti State Commissioner of Police Adeniran Akinwale confirmed that Farotimi was detained on multiple charges, including defamation of character and cyberstalking, with these two charges already fully established.


Akinwale added, “We had been searching for him before we successfully arrested him. We are currently investigating the case, and once the investigation is complete, we will determine his level of involvement.”
