 Georgia Judge Stephen Yekel Shoots Himself, Dies by Suicide Inside Courtroom on Final Day in Office A Georgia judge was found dead in a courtroom of an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday, his last day in office, authorities said. Deputies discovered State Court Judge Stephen Yekel, 74, at the Effingham County Courthouse at around 10 a.m., the Effingham County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement. Court was not in session, and the courtroom was empty. Investigators said he had died either Monday night or early Tuesday morning. The Georgia Bureau of Investigation will perform an autopsy to confirm Yekel’s cause of death. “He was in the courthouse, apparently by himself there this morning,” county coroner David Exley told The Atlanta Journal-Constitution. “He was sitting on the bench in his courtroom.” Chief Judge F. S. A: DETECTIVE ARRESTED FOR ALLEGED POLICE CELL RAPE. (PHOTO).

 A shocking incident has shaken the community, as a 40-year-old detective from Malmesbury SAPS has been arrested for allegedly raping a 41-year-old woman in a police cell.



According to the victim, the detective detained her on Christmas Day, 25 December 2024 under the pretext of a theft investigation. However, he later claimed it was a mistake. The victim alleges that the detective attempted to coerce her into consuming alcohol, and when she refused, he assaulted and raped her in the cell.


In a disturbing turn of events, the detective allegedly dropped the victim off in town after the incident. A thorough investigation has been launched, and evidence, including medical reports and the victim’s torn clothing, has been collected.



The detective is currently being held at Riebeek SAPS and is scheduled to appear in court on 30 December 2024. The community is outraged by the alleged incident, and authorities have vowed to take swift and decisive action to ensure justice is served.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
