  A manhunt is underway for man who shot a Granite City Police Officer multiple times. Officers in Granite City, Illinois, responded to a call regarding a unwanted subject near the 2000 block of Johnson Road at 2:20 p.m. on Friday, December 5th. Upon arrival, officers attempted to make contact with the suspect. The suspect opened fire on officers before fleeing the scene.  Unfortunately, one officer was struck multiple times. The officer was rushed to a St. Louis University Hospital. He is expected to make a full recovery.  A massive manhunt is now underway to locate the suspect. Authorities warn the public that the man is considered armed and dangerous.  Troops from  6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have dealt a significant blow to bandits operating in Taraba and Benue States. 

The operation, codenamed "Operation Golden Peace," aims to restore peace and security in the region.


On December 7, 2024, the troops launched a well-coordinated clearance operation in the Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State. The operation extended to Ikayor village, where troops engaged bandits linked to the notorious criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as "Full Fire."


The bandits were forced to flee after troops applied overwhelming firepower. A red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, and various items, including a military camouflage trouser and a Beretta pistol, were recovered.


Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience. He assured residents of Taraba and Benue States that the military remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
