 Catholic priest reportedly klled in Kogi  A Catholic priest, Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, has been reportedly killed by unknown assailants in Ajaokuta, Kogi State. According to reports, the priest was stabbed multiple times along Ajaokuta road on Wednesday, 29th July 2026. His body was found dumped at the roadside.  Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State and a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.  Until his death, he served as a priest at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Egbe.  Troops from  6 Brigade Nigerian Army, in conjunction with Sector 3 Operation Whirl Stroke, have dealt a significant blow to bandits operating in Taraba and Benue States. 

The operation, codenamed "Operation Golden Peace," aims to restore peace and security in the region.


On December 7, 2024, the troops launched a well-coordinated clearance operation in the Akahagu and China villages of Ukum Local Government Area in Benue State. The operation extended to Ikayor village, where troops engaged bandits linked to the notorious criminal Akiki Utiv, also known as "Full Fire."


The bandits were forced to flee after troops applied overwhelming firepower. A red Toyota Corolla vehicle, a motorcycle, and various items, including a military camouflage trouser and a Beretta pistol, were recovered.


Brigadier General Kingsley Chidiebere Uwa, Commander of the 6 Brigade, commended the troops for their bravery and resilience. He assured residents of Taraba and Benue States that the military remains committed to maintaining peace and security in the region.
