 Nigeria U19 Women’s Cricket team gears up for Maiden ICC World Cup appearance The National Sports Commission (NSC) has expressed excitement over Nigeria’s first-ever participation in the ICC U19 Women’s T20 Cricket World Cup, scheduled to take place in Malaysia from January 18, 2025. In preparation, the NSC has approved a foreign training tour for the team in India, underscoring its commitment to ensuring a strong performance on the global stage. The Director General of the NSC, Hon. Bukola Olopade, announced this development in a press statement through his Special Adviser on Media, Kola Daniel highlighting the collaborative efforts between the Commission and the Nigeria Cricket Federation (NCF) in providing technical, logistical, and financial support for the team. “Starting the year with Nigeria's maiden participation at the Cricket World Cup for our U19 girls is a significant milestone for us at the Commission, and we are not taking it lightly,” Olopade stated. A 75-YEAR-OLD ARIZONA WOMAN ESCAPES HER KIDNAPPER AFTER BEING HELD AGAINST HER WILL FOR HOURS, ONLY TO DISCOVER HE HAD TAKEN HER BOYFRIEND'S LIFE. (PHOTO).

 Wow. A 75-year-old year old Arizona woman escapes her kidnapper after being held against her will for hours, only to discover he had taken her boyfriend's life.


This startling tale began at around 3 p.m. on January 3rd  in Pierce, Arizona. A masked man forced his way into the victim's home. The man, later identified as 37-year-old Rynn Prairie-Rocca, blindfolded the 75-year-old woman and put her in the backseat of a car. 


While in the backseat the woman heard several loud noises, but she was unable to tell what exactly was happening.  A short while later the woman was moved to the backseat of her own vehicle and was taken off the premises.


The incredible brave 75-year-old victim was able to escape from her restraints and run away from her kidnapper while stopped at a Dollar General store. She then ran to a nearby residence and called 911 to report she had been kidnapped. 


The 911 went through to the Cochise County Sheriff's Office at 8:10 p.m. As the woman was being taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital she informed deputies that her boyfriend should still be in the home. She asked them "if they could please let him know she was being taken to the hospital". 


Deputies responded to the home and sadly found her boyfriend deceased. He was 67 at the time of his homicide. 


Police quickly identified Prairie-Rocca as a suspect in the kidnapping and murder. After locating Prairie-Rocca in a Cochise County home, a tense 90 minute stand off occurred. 


Prairie-Rocca eventually surrendered without incident and was booked into Cochise County Jail. The names of the victims have not been released.


Our thoughts are with the victim in this case and her boyfriend's family.

  SSANU, NASU threaten strike over withheld salaries The Joint Action Committee of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities and the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions have threatened to disrupt industrial peace in universities should the government fail to release the withheld salaries of members. The salaries were seized by the administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari during their strike in 2022. The unions, in a joint letter signed on Friday by the President of SSANU, Muhammed Ibrahim and General Secretary of NASU, Peters Adeyemi, questioned the rationale with which the government released four months withheld salaries to members of the Academic Staff Union of Universities but failed to release the withheld salaries of non-academic staff.
