 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. Anambra Assembly Speaker Udeze Felicitates With Chief Anyaoku On His 92nd Birthday

The Speaker, Anambra State House of Assembly, Right Honourable Somtochukwu Udeze has described former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku as a revered diplomat whose service at the Commonwealth fetched Nigeria high regard and recognition among other African countries.


Felicitating Chief Anyaoku on his 92nd birthday, Udeze noted that Chief Anyaoku discharged his duties at the Commonwealth of Nations creditably and was recognized by various organs of the International Community.


The Speaker extolled the advisory roles being played by Chief Anyaoku in Nigeria and Anambra State in particular where he has continued to use his wealth of experience to advance good governance.


He noted that Chief Anyaoku's contributions to the growth and development of the Church of God and his community, Obosi are legendary, adding that even his foreign assignments and engagements could not prevent him from participating in the local Obosi customs and traditions, hence his recognition by the entire Idemili people as "Ugwumba Idemili".


Right Honourable Udeze while praying God to continue to strengthen Chief Anyaoku and give him longevity, enjoined the citizenry to emulate Chief Anyaoku's outstanding personality by striving to make a good name in their various endeavours.
