Kansas driver’s license law puts some transgender residents in ID limbo A new Kansas law has effectively invalidated the driver’s licenses and other government-issued documents of transgender residents, leaving many in legal and personal limbo. Senate Bill 244, which went into effect immediately after the legislature overrode Gov. Laura Kelly’s veto, requires that the gender listed on a driver’s license align with the state’s binary definition of male and female. The law also directs the state registrar to “correct” birth certificates that do not match these definitions. Unlike similar restrictions in other states, Kansas’ law retroactively invalidates previously issued documents. Legal advocates warn that the law threatens the privacy and safety of transgender residents, forcing them to disclose their gender identity in situations ranging from employment applications to renting property or opening bank accounts. The Anambra State Government has commissioned the newly built, equipped Primary Healthcare Centre wards in Enugwu-Agidi, Njikoka Local Government Area.

The Enugwu-Agidi Progressive Union, United States of America, (EPU-USA), handed over the built and furnished new ward, as well as completed doctors' quarters at the Health Centre to Anambra State Government.

The group also renovated three existing buildings in the hospital.

The State Commissioner for Health, Dr. Afam Obidike commended the group for keying into the Public Private Community Partnership, (PPCP) initiative of the Gov. Chukwuma Soludo's administration.

Dr. Obidike urged other Communities to emulate them, as the state government can not develop the state alone.

The Commissioner said the hospital will be linked to State telemedicine for optimal service delivery to the people.

He assured them that he would continue his monitoring so as to ensure health workers do not fail the people who would want to access care in the hospital.

"Soon 5KVA solar power system will be installed here so as to complement the efforts of the Community.''

Dr. Obidike represented Giv. Soludo during the event.

Earlier, the President General of Enugwu-Agidi Progressive Union USA, Chief Sunny Okoye said they decided to embark on the project because of the need for improved healthcare services in the community and appealed to the state government to address some issues that are still facing the hospital such as staffing, electricity supply and major equipment for quality healthcare delivery.

Some members of the group, Dr. Christian Nwankwo and Chief John-Chris Okoye expressed happiness on their achievements for their town and promised to keep supporting EPU USA leadership for more development in Enugwu-Agidi.

The Traditional Ruler of Enugwu-Agidi, Igwe Michael Okeke-Uche, the immediate past Transition Committee Chairman of Njikoka Council Area, Mr. Clement Aguiyi, and an illustrious son of the town, Prof. Emeka Nwankwo thanked the group for remembering their community and tackling one of the major challenges facing the community, encouraging other groups to borrow a leaf from them for a better Enugwu-Agidi.
