 Benue SUBEB Resumes Teacher Recruitment

The Benue State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received approval from the Benue State House of Assembly to restart the recruitment process for over 9,000 teachers.

This follows the suspension of the recruitment in December due to a disagreement between SUBEB’s Executive Chairman, Mrs. Grace Adagba, and the State Assembly Ad-Hoc Committee, led by Hon. Cephas Dyako. The committee was tasked with investigating the process to determine if any laws were violated and if due process was observed.

After thorough investigation, the committee cleared the Dr. Adagba-led Board of any wrongdoing and lifted the suspension on the teacher recruitment process.

According to the committee’s report, the laws governing the Board allow it to "recruit, appoint, promote, and discipline teaching and non-teaching staff on grade levels 07 and above."

The report further stated that 74,574 candidates applied for the recruitment, with 48,895 candidates participating in the recently concluded Computer-Based Test (CBT).

In light of this, the Board has resumed the process, which is now nearing completion with the screening of applicants who met the required cut-off marks.

In a statement issued by its Information Officer, Emmanuel Akese, the Board thanked the patience of all shortlisted applicants and assured them of a fair and transparent process to ensure effective and quality basic education delivery.

The screening exercise will take place from January 10 to January 16, 2024, and applicants from the 23 Local Government Areas (LGAs) of the state have been assigned specific dates for screening at the Board’s headquarters.
