 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Chelle delighted with Super Eagles coaching role


Newly appointed Super Eagles head coach, Eric Chelle, says he is ”proud and honoured” to manage the team.


Chelle was unveiled at an elaborate ceremony at the media conference room of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja on Monday.


The 47-year-old quit his role with Algerian club, MC Oran to accept the offer to manage the Super Eagles.


“I’m so proud and honoured to be the new Super Eagles head coach. Nigeria has a great history with quality players like Ikpeba, Amokachi, Amuneke, Yekini, Oliseh, Eguavoen, Finidi, West, Obi Mikel and Babangida,” Chelle said at his unveiling.


“I was a fan then and with this new generation too, Lookman, Osimhen and others.”


The former Lens defender also highlighted his footballing philosophy, saying, “I love scoring goals. My teams are never lacking in goals, and the Super Eagles will be no exception – we will score goals.”
