 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  COMMISSIONER TASKS DISTRICT VI PRINCIPALS ON ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE 


… Seeks For Ways To Improve Students' Wassce Performance 


The Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Mr. Jamiu Tolani Alli-Balogun, has tasked teachers and educational stakeholders in Education District VI with embodying a culture of excellence that students and teachers in their district can emulate.  


The Commissioner made this known during a recent review meeting with junior and senior secondary school principals in Education District VI. The meeting aimed to assess student performance in the last West African School Certificate Examination and identify strategies for improvement.


Tutor-General/Permanent Secretary, Education District VI, Mrs. Mojisola Christiana Yusuff, in her opening remarks, stated that the meeting is basically to review the performance of students in the last West African School Certificate Examination in the education district and look for a way of improving the performance of the learners going forward in the education district.


To address this, the Commissioner charged the principals with taking leadership roles in their schools, promoting a culture of excellence and motivating teachers and students to strive for better results. He emphasised the importance of strict promotion exams, ensuring that only deserving students advance to the next class.


Additionally, Mr. Alli-Balogun encouraged the principals to promote and encourage co-curricular activities, such as sports, which have become a viable career path for students. He stressed the need to change the narrative in the education district, urging principals to make a concerted effort to improve student outcomes.


The meeting marked a crucial step towards enhancing education quality in Education District VI, with stakeholders committed to working together to achieve this goal.
