 NDLEA dismantles Abuja drug bunks, arrests 132, recovers 220kg illicit substances  -Marwa hails operation, vows to sustain crackdown in FCT, other states  In a non-stop two-week offensive action against traffickers and dealers, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have successfully dismantled several drug joints and bunks within and around the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Abuja where a total of 132 suspects were arrested and 220 kilograms of assorted illicit substances recovered. The wel-coordinated raids jointly conducted by the Agency's Directorate of Operations and General Investigation (DOGI) and the FCT Strategic Command from llth to 25th April 2026 were launched to dismantle illicit drug hubs contributing to substance abuse, trafficking, and associated criminal activities in the capital city after weeks of intelligence and surveillance across all identified hotspots. DIBRUGARH POLICE RESERVE OFFICER MISTAKENLY KILLED HIMSELF WHILE CLEANING HIS SERVICE RIFILE. (PHOTO).

 Madhav Chutia, an officer with the Dibrugarh Police Reserve, tragically lost his life in an accidental firing incident while cleaning his service rifle. The mishap occurred as Chutia, who held the rank of Additional Superintendent of Police, was preparing for duty at his home.


The accidental discharge from his AK-74 rifle fatally injured him, with the bullet piercing his chest and striking a television in the house. Family members and colleagues immediately rushed him to the Assam Medical College Hospital (AMCH) for treatment, but doctors were unable to save him.


The incident has left the police force and the local community in shock. Chutia was known for his dedication to his work and had served the Dibrugarh Police Reserve with distinction. His untimely death has raised concerns about safety precautions during weapon maintenance.


Authorities are investigating the incident to understand how the accidental discharge occurred. Senior officials have urged all personnel to follow strict safety protocols while handling firearms to prevent such tragedies in the future.
