 US-China trade talks begin in Paris, setting stage for Trump-Xi summit  U.S. and Chinese officials began high-level trade talks in Paris on Sunday, setting the stage for President Donald Trump’s upcoming visit to Beijing to meet Chinese leader Xi Jinping in about two weeks. The delegations are led by U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent and Chinese Vice Premier He Lifeng. While the White House has announced Trump’s visit for March 31 to April 2, Beijing has not yet confirmed the dates. Bessent emphasized that the U.S. team aims to secure outcomes that prioritize American farmers, workers, and businesses. Over the two-day talks, the delegations will focus on trade and economic issues of mutual concern. Trump’s visit will be his first to China since his first term in 2017 and follows a one-year truce in the U.S.-China trade war agreed upon last year in Busan, South Korea.  ENUGU POLICE OPERATIVES ARREST MAN FOR CUTTING OFF WIFE'S WRIST OVER SUSPECTED INFIDELITY


The Enugu State Police Command, through its operatives attached to Okpuje Division, on January 26, 2025, arrested one Sunday Echege, a 33-year-old male resident of Ibagwa-Agu Farm Settlement in Ibagwa-Ani community, Nsukka LGA, for severing the left wrist of his wife, Chinonso Echege. The arrest was made possible with the assistance of law-abiding members of the community, and the machete used in committing the crime was recovered from the suspect. 


Preliminary investigations reveal that the suspect, who has confessed to the crime, claimed he acted out of suspicion that his wife was involved in extramarital affairs.  


The suspect will be arraigned in court upon the conclusion of investigations.  


The Commissioner of Police, CP Kanayo Uzuegbu, psc (+), has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to ensure a thorough and timely investigation, followed by the prosecution of the suspect. He further urged couples to resolve their differences through love, understanding, and legal means, rather than resorting to violent criminal acts.
