 ANAMBRA POLICE COMMAND RECEIVES AND AUGMENTS IGP’S MONITORING UNIT OPERATIVES ON ENFORCEMENT OF POLICE PERSONNEL WITHDRAWAL FROM VIP ESCORT DUTIES IN THE STATE The Anambra State Police Command today 8th December 2025 formally received operatives of the Inspector-General of Police (IGP)’s Monitoring Unit deployed to the state to ensure full implementation of the IGP’s directive on the withdrawal of police personnel from VIP escort and guard duties. The Commissioner of Police CP Ikioye Orutugu fwc mnips PhD reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to supporting the IGP’s reform efforts targeted at enhancing professionalism, discipline, and optimal deployment of police manpower nationwide. The CP noted that the withdrawal of these officers will help to strengthen public policing, improve response capacity, and ensure that more personnel are available for core policing duties across the state.  EU Allocates €510m in Humanitarian Aid for Nigeria, Sub-Saharan Africa


The European Union (EU) has announced a humanitarian aid package of €1.9 billion for 2025, with €510 million designated for Nigeria and other sub-Saharan African nations.

According to a statement from the European Commission on Thursday, the funds will be distributed across regions including West and Central Africa, the Sahel, the Lake Chad Basin, North-West Nigeria, Central Africa, the Great Lakes region, and the Greater Horn of Africa.


The aid aims to address escalating humanitarian crises, which are projected to impact over 300 million people globally in 2025.


Hadja Lahbib, EU Commissioner for Equality, Preparedness, and Crisis Management, emphasized the need for safe and unhindered access to affected populations, noting that funding alone cannot resolve these challenges without adherence to international humanitarian law.


“With more than 300 million people requiring humanitarian assistance in 2025, the EU is steadfast in its commitment as a leading aid donor to support those most in need. This funding will empower our partners, including UN agencies, the Red Cross/Red Crescent, and local organizations, to deliver life-saving emergency assistance,” Lahbib said.


Global Distribution of Aid

The EU detailed its global humanitarian allocations as follows:


Middle East and North Africa: €470 million, with €375 million for the Middle East (including Gaza) and €95 million for North Africa and Yemen.


Ukraine and Moldova: €148 million (€140 million for Ukraine and €8 million for Moldova).

Latin America and the Caribbean: €113 million for crises in Venezuela, Colombia, Haiti, and other conflict zones.

Asia and the Pacific: €182 million for crises in Myanmar, Bangladesh, Afghanistan, and other areas.

Southern Africa, Indian Ocean, Southern Caucasus, and Central Asia: €40 million.

The EU has also reserved €295 million for emergency responses to unforeseen crises and €110 million for innovative projects and capacity building.

Since 1992, the European Commission has provided humanitarian aid in over 110 countries, working with UN agencies, the Red Cross/Red Crescent, and other international and local organizations.
