Kano Assembly Approves Law to Establish State Infectious Disease Control Center

The Kano State House of Assembly has passed legislation empowering the governor to establish a state-owned center for the prevention and control of infectious diseases.

The law, enacted after its third reading, followed extensive deliberations led by the Speaker, Jibril Isma’il Falgore. It is designed to strengthen the state's infectious disease management framework and had previously passed its first and second readings last year after being introduced by the executive arm.

In addition to passing the law, the Assembly approved a report from its Works Committee, chaired by Abubakar Abdullahi Isah of Gaya Local Government Area. The report endorsed the appointments of Hajiya Ladidi Garko as Chairperson of the Kano State Civil Service and Training Commission, Abdullahi Muhammad as the first member, and Ado Ahmad Muhammad as the second member.

Furthermore, the Assembly conducted the first reading of several new bills, including the Kano State Advertising Regulatory Agency Bill, the Kano State Urban Planning and Development Agency Bill, and the Kano State Water Sector Professionals Welfare Association Bill.

Our correspondent at the Assembly, Kamal Umar Kurna, provided updates on these legislative developments.
