Katsina Deputy Governor Visits Egypt to Address Welfare of 41 MBBS Students

Katsina State Deputy Governor, Faruk Lawal Jobe, led a delegation to Nahda University in Beni Suef, Egypt, to assess the academic progress and welfare of 41 medical students benefiting from the state’s foreign scholarship scheme.

During the visit, the Deputy Governor highlighted the mission’s focus on addressing the students’ needs, including tuition fees, accommodation, utilities, and upkeep allowances for the duration of their studies.

“This initiative is a key pillar of Governor Dikko Radda’s healthcare reforms,” said Mr. Jobe, adding that the scholarship aims to develop a skilled healthcare workforce drawn from public secondary schools to serve local communities.

He also emphasized the programme’s broader goal of providing less privileged students with access to quality education and opportunities in the medical field.

The visit comes nearly a year after Governor Radda’s send-off ceremony for the students on January 22, 2024, where he underscored the importance of ensuring they return to strengthen healthcare services in their local government areas.

The delegation included key officials such as Usman Isyaku, Special Adviser on Public Service Reforms; Dr. Sabi’u Liadi, Executive Secretary of the Hospital Services Management Board; Dr. Aminu Salisu, Executive Secretary of the Scholarship Board; and Bello Lawal Yandaki, National President of ALGON.

The team was warmly received by Nahda University President, Prof. Hossam Elmallahy, and Vice President, Prof. Ashraf Omar Mahmoud.
