 South Africa says US misrepresented its policies after visa curbs South Africa's foreign ministry said on Wednesday that it ‌had noted with concern U.S. visa restrictions on some people from South Africa announced by U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio a day earlier. The foreign ministry added in a statement that ⁠the U.S. announcement aligned with "the mischaracterisation of South Africa's domestic policies by fringe groups". "We maintain that challenges in our bilateral relations with the USA can only be resolved by constructive engagement through state actors on both sides of the diplomatic channel not unilateral acts," the statement said, Reuters reported. Trump has repeatedly criticized ‌South ⁠Africa since the start of his second term for what he falsely claims is the racial persecution of its white minority, citing affirmative action laws aimed at ⁠addressing the inequality that has persisted since apartheid.  Suleja Fire: Southern Governors’ Forum Condoles Niger Gov


Ogun State Governor and Chairman of the Southern Governors’ Forum, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has described the tanker fire explosion in Suleja, Niger State, which claimed 77 lives and injured 25 others, as a devastating tragedy.


In a statement, Abiodun expressed condolences to Governor Mohammed Umar Bago, his cabinet, and the people of Niger State, urging them to remain resilient despite the tragic loss. He prayed for the victims’ souls to rest in peace and for the speedy recovery of the injured.


Abiodun emphasized the need for stricter traffic rule enforcement to prevent similar avoidable tragedies and warned against scooping fuel from fallen tankers. He also called on federal and state agencies to intensify efforts in managing the aftermath and urged the Federal Government to support Niger State during this challenging time.
