 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali. THE FG HAS PROHIBITED MILITARY PERSONNEL FROM ENGAGING IN ROMANTIC RELATIONSHIPS WITH THEIR SUBORDINATES OR THE SPOUSES OF THEIR SUBORDINATES. (PHOTO).


 The Federal Government has prohibited military personnel from engaging in romantic relationships with their subordinates or the spouses of their subordinates.  


Additionally, Nigerian military members are strictly forbidden from participating in homosexuality, lesbianism, bestiality, cross-dressing, and other activities deemed incompatible with the values of the armed forces.  


They are also barred from body piercing, tattooing, disorderly behavior, intoxication on or off duty, and any actions that could bring public disgrace.  


These rules are outlined in Section 26 of the updated “Harmonised Armed Forces Terms and Conditions of Service”, signed by President Bola Tinubu on December 16, 2024.  


According to the section:  

- Officers must not engage in activities related to the LGBTQIA2S+ community or cross-dressing.  

- Body piercings, tattoos, drunkenness, and public brawls are prohibited.  

- Relationships with subordinates, or with the spouses of fellow officers or subordinates, are strictly forbidden.  


Furthermore, military personnel are required to promptly fulfill financial obligations, such as vehicle licensing and insurance. Membership in secret societies or political parties is also prohibited.
