 Russian forces to stay in Mali to fight terrorism: Kremlin The Kremlin said on Thursday that Russian forces would stay in Mali to help the country's government battle terrorists following an offensive over the weekend by Tuareg-led separatists and terrorists. Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov made the statement after being asked by a reporter how Russia responded to a purported statement from the terrorists saying they wanted Russia to leave Mali. "Russia's presence there is, in fact, due to the need identified by the current government. Russia will continue, including in Mali, to combat extremism, terrorism and other harmful phenomena and will continue to provide assistance to the current government," said Peskov, AFP reported. The Russian Defence Ministry had claimed on Tuesday that units of its African Corps prevented an attempted coup on April 25, 2026 in Mali.  Turji’s whereabouts unknown, top commanders killed in Zamfara airstrikes – NAF


The Nigerian Air Force, NAF, on Sunday disclosed that the whereabouts of dreaded bandit leader, Bello Turji, is unknown.

NAF disclosed that while Turji’s whereabouts is known, some of his allies were killed in its latest attack on bandits in Zamfara State.

A statement by NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, Air Vice Marshal Olusola Akinboyewa, said top bandit commanders were killed in a series of airstrikes in Zamfara State.

Akinboyewa said the strikes, which were conducted in collaboration with ground troops, left several bandits injured.

“Scores of bandits were neutralized, while many others, including some top commanders, sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“Sequel to the fierce engagement, Kachallah Turji’s whereabouts remain unknown, adding further pressure on his crumbling network.”

The statement described Operation Fansan Yamma as a well-coordinated air-ground assault, noting that it was in line with the Armed Forces’ resolve to ensure that peace and security returns to the North-West.

The statement added that the operation was meticulously executed, with real-time coordination from an Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance platform overhead, ensuring accurate target correlation.
