UPDATE: NEW ORLEANS TERROR SUSPECT IDENTIFIED, HE HAD ISIS FLAG ON TRUCK THAT PLOWED THROUGH NEW YEAR'S CROWD. (PHOTO).

New Orleans terror suspect identified, he had ISIS flag on truck that plowed through New Year’s crowd

The man accused of the deadly New Year’s Day attack on Bourbon Street has been identified as Shamsud Din Jabbar, 42. Law enforcement sources confirmed the suspect’s identity to Fox 8 just before noon on Wednesday, Jan. 1. The FBI later confirmed the identity.

Jabbar is accused of intentionally driving a pickup truck through barricades into a crowd of pedestrians on Bourbon Street near Canal Street early Wednesday morning.

The truck used in the attack had a Texas license plate and was carrying an ISIS flag, according to the FBI.

Investigators also found guns and pipe bombs, which were concealed within coolers, according to a Louisiana State Police intelligence bulletin obtained by The Associated Press. Both devices were wired for remote detonation, and a corresponding remote control was discovered inside the

suspect's truck, the bulletin said.

The FBl identified the driver as Shamsud-Din Jabbar, 42, a U.S. citizen from Texas and said it is working to determine Jabbar's potential associations and affiliations with terrorist organizations.

"We do not believe that Jabbar was solely responsible," Alethea Duncan, an assistant special agent in charge of the FBI's New Orleans field office, said at a news conference.

According to Fox News, the truck was tracked crossing the southern border into the U.S. at Eagle Pass, Texas, in November. The person who crossed the border with the vehicle in November is not believed to be the attacker.

The Pasadena Police Department has told local news outlets it is assisting in the investigation.

After crashing the vehicle, Jabbar reportedly exited and opened fire on responding police officers. Two officers were injured during the exchange before Jabbar was fatally shot by police.

The attack left 10 people dead and at least 35 others injured in what the FBI is now investigating as an act of terrorism. Officials have also said that suspected explosive devices were found in Jabbar’s possession, and federal investigators are continuing to assess the threat level.

New Orleans Police Superintendent Anne Kirkpatrick described the incident as a deliberate act, saying, “This was intentional.”

The tragedy unfolded amid heightened security in the city for the Sugar Bowl, which is still scheduled to take place Wednesday evening at the Caesars Superdome.
